The opportunity is open to Indian startups. At least 51% of the applicant entity’s shareholding must be held by Indian citizens or persons of Indian origin, and the applicant cannot be a subsidiary of a foreign corporation., Individual academicians, researchers, educators, entrepreneurs, partnership firms and LLPs may also apply. Applicants without a qualifying company must incorporate a private limited company within the stipulated period, preferably three months after selection.

About the Program

NIRMAAN is the seventh Open Challenge Program of STPI MedTech CoE. It supports startups, innovators and researchers developing medical-electronics and health-informatics products and technology-driven healthcare solutions. Successfully onboarded startups may pitch to the MedTech CoE Investment Committee for seed funding up to INR 50 lakh. Funding is not automatically awarded upon selection.

Eligibility requirements

  • Applicants must work in medical electronics, health informatics or an aligned healthcare-technology area.
  • Eligible solutions include ideas, proofs of concept, prototypes, MVPs and pre-market products.
  • Registered startups must generally be no more than 10 years old and must not have exceeded INR 100 crore in annual turnover in any financial year since incorporation.
  • DPIIT-registered startups are encouraged, but DPIIT recognition is not stated as mandatory.

Selection process

  • Applications undergo multi-tier screening by domain experts.
  • Stage one evaluates ideas, proofs of concept, prototypes, MVPs and pre-market solutions.
  • Shortlisted applicants proceed to a pitching and final-evaluation session before the designated committee. The committee’s decision is final.
